Hello all,
I will be purchasing a Yaesu FTdx3000 transceiver soon, and will be needing a 13.8 volt power supply. I've been looking for a suitable supply, but so far haven't found any with really good reviews. I would prefer a linear supply, and would appreciate the names of companies I could look at. Specific model names would be great as well. Thanks for any suggestions.

Congrats on your new radio. You don't mention how many amps your radio needs, but my fave supply at the moment is the Alinco DM-330MV. It's a switching supply, but I have yet to detect any interference from it (I use it with an ICOM IC-7600). Metering is fine, solid construction.

I use Astron 20A linear ps. Been running fine for ten years. Kind of heavy but very solid performer. Obviously no RFI.

The FTdX3000 needs a 23A supply--which means that the 20A would only work if you turned down the power to avoid overloading the supply. You may need to turn the power down even more to run a 100% duty cycle mode like RTTY, compared to a low duty cycle like SSB. Astron does make bigger models like the 35A.

I'm about a year late:) but...

I tried operating a FTDX3000 from a 20A Astron. As Zack suggests, it wasn't big enough. On certain band-mode combinations it would drive the supply into current limiting, dropping the voltage enough to shut the radio off.

I ended up buying the RS-35A, which is working nicely.
