To celebrate the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States, Amateur Radio clubs in the Washington, DC, area and across the country have planned special operating events. From January 14-24, the District of Columbia Amateur Radio Society will be operating as W3A on all bands. QSL via Eric Rosenberg, W3DQ. On January 20, the OMIK Amateur Radio Association, K0MIK, will be on the air from 9-11 AM EST and 1-5 PM EST (no operation during the actual ceremony). Visit

Surfin' column, Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, mentioned that on January 19-20, Amateur Radio special event station K4I will mark the inauguration by providing talk-in service for ham radio operators traveling to the Washington, DC area for the inauguration. Arlington Radio Public Service Club (ARPSC), W4AVA, in cooperation with Arlington County RACES, Midwest Amateur Radio Service (MidCars) and the Arlington County Office of Emergency Management, will activate K4I.
