50HZ=HF???

New to amateur radio. I have seen numerous ads for 50HZ high frequency transceivers In my eyes, the Gigahertz range is high frequency. Could someone explain it to me? Thanks.. |

You probably mean 50 MHz (megaherz)? The conventional divisions go like this MF (medium frequency) 300 kHz - 3 MHz HF (high frequency) 3 - 30 MHz VHF (very high frequency) 30 - 300 MHz UHF (ultra high frequency) 300 - 3000 MHz (3 GHz) and SHF above that, etc. etc. This nomenclature probably dates from WW II, if not before, when VHF was still pretty exotic.
