Description:

(Adapted from https://www.qsl.net/k2ul/nyuarc/) The first New York University Amateur Radio Club went on the air some time in 1924 at the Washington Square campus in downtown Manhattan, New York City -- which means the NYU ARC is now over 100 years old! The club has undergone several iterations over the decades, but was most active in the '50s, '60s, and early '70s. In August 2000, the callsign W2DSC was restored to the fourth incarnation of the NYU Amateur Radio Club. In May 2009, we acquired the callsign W2NYU after the passing of Arnold Rand. Although not an alumnus, he was a friend of NYU ARC and honorary club member. He wanted his call sign to live on at NYU.

In recent years, NYU ARC has occasionally been on the air as W2DSC or W2NYU, most conspicuously in the Collegiate QSO Party in October. We invite NYU alumni, current students, and faculty to get us on the air; please coordinate with Colin Phoon, AE3A (Club Trustee). Bob Schaps, WB2NVR, is our QSL manager.

We would like to hear from new or old alumni, and current NYU students or faculty hams. Perhaps someday a physical station can be re-installed at Washington Square (or maybe Brooklyn/Engineering School, or maybe the Medical Center/Langone Health). For now, NYU alumni, faculty, and students meet on-line / via email, and we will do our best to keep alive a "virtual" NYU ARC.
